Just my penny’s worth..... PRIORITIES
Webster’s definition:
pri-or: 1-earlier in time or order, 2-taking precedence logically or in importance.
pri-or-i-tize: to list or rate in order of priority.
What is a priority? It’s something you put ahead of something else because it’s logical to do so, or because it’s more important to do it first. Some priorities are easy to rate and accomplish (eating, sleeping, working, playing, etc), while others are not (schedules, plans, events, world situations, etc). Some we have much control over, others not.
We know we need a certain number of hours of sleep, so we schedule them.
We know we need food to keep us going, so we schedule our meals.
Our careers require us to be somewhere at a particular time, so we schedule our time.
Everyone needs a little “relaxing time” to rest and rejuvenate our bodies and our spirits, so we try and schedule some of that.
Let’s look at some particular priorities most of us have. You can put them into whatever order you wish, add your own to the list, and number them from 1-? as they fit into your life.
Family (spouse, parents, kids, extended family)
Friends (people other than family you enjoy spending time with)
Other relationships (co-worker, boss, teacher, etc)
Job (as a means to provide the things you need and want)
Health (what you eat and how you take care of yourself and those you love)
Wealth (how much money or material assets you have)
Education (continuing to learn new things)
Fun (vacation, parties, hobbies, music, TV, games, etc)
Transportation (car, truck)
Home (where you live)
God

When you have your list compiled, take a close look at what matters the most to you. Is it something that only matters for a short time, or for the rest of your life? Is it something that won’t matter tomorrow, in a week, a year, 2 years, ten years from now? Then ask yourself: Do I need to change some of my priorities?
In His Word, God tells us, “Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For everything in the world -- the cravings of sinful man, the lust of his eyes and the boasting of what he has and does -- comes not from the Father but from the world. The world and its desires pass away, but the man who does the will of God lives forever.” (1 John 2:15-17, NIV)
