Limited resources

I find it very interesting that nowhere in the Bible does God talk about people discussing how to afford to accomplish God's task. We are called to be good stewards of what God has given us, but we are not called to be hoarders. I am not advocating throwing caution to the wind and undertaking every little project that we can think of to run our checking account to zero as fast as possible. That is not what I am saying at all.

Rather, I believe if God puts a task before His church, He will provide the resources necessary to accomplish the task. When those tasks flow straight from Scripture, I believe even more that God will provide. Now comes the scary part. I don't believe God's people should ever shy away from a God-size ministry because we can't afford it. Again, if God lays the mission on our heart, He will provide the means to accomplish that mission.

The key is to remember who God is and have faith in Him. A few posts ago, I talked about my friend and professor and his passionate reading of Matthew 9:36-38.

Seeing the people, He felt compassion for them, because they were distressed and dispirited like sheep without a shepherd.
Then He said to His disciples, "The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Therefore beseech the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into His harvest."

Today I want us to notice who is responsible for the harvest, and the provision of the workers. This passage clearly says that we are to pray to the "Lord of the Harvest" for the workers to accomplish "His harvest." If I can broaden the principle that this teaches I would say we need to pray to our Father for the resources (of any kind) to accomplish His mission. The bottom line is, we need to pray. Don't let resources (or lack thereof) deter you from doing what God has asked you to do. Trust that everything will be in place at the proper time and step out in confident faith that God is indeed the "Lord of the harvest."

The shoe company, Nike, may have said it first, but I believe it. "Just do it."
