I wonder...

Matthew 28:18-20, And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age."

We, in the USA, are privileged beyond compare in the world. We have more property, more money, and more stuff than any other culture in our world today. No one has as much as we do. Someone reading this may be thinking they don't have all that much, but if you have food for the day and roof over your head, you are already in the top 50% of the world's population. Add to that the fact that you probably have at least one TV, one radio, a microwave, a stove, a refrigerator, a lawn mower... need I go on? We have plenty.

The one thing we don't have as citizens of this great country is hope for eternity. And I know, if anyone is reading this blog, that you are concerned at this point that this post will become a call to arms for voting, or another petition drive, or some other political action. But let me tell you that I am not asking you to do anything in the political arena.

You see, all of the political grandstanding we can muster will not bring us hope. All of the TV speeches we can deliver with great poise and eloquent words will not rescue us from our plight. All of the petitions for changing the laws of this nation will bring about true security and peace. None of those will bring about a permanent change because they are only addressing the symptoms and not the real problem.

The real problem is that those who call themselves followers of Jesus Christ have given up the fight. We have decided that it is easier to give up than it is to stand up. We have decided that it is beneficial to believe that all roads lead to heaven. We have decided that sincerity in belief trumps belief in truth. In short, we have decided that people really don't need to be saved (John 3:3). I know these are harsh words. I know that they sting. But if you really believed that people needed to be saved by the name of Jesus, then you would be telling them about Him, constantly.

It is like seeing someone fall overboard on a cruise ship. You are the only one to witness the fall and you can see the person in the water. They have no life-preserver. Do you throw them a life-preserver, or do you just watch them drown? People all around us are perishing because of their lostness. Are we just watching? Or do we give them what the need, the life-changing power of Jesus?

I wonder what would happen if every Christian took Jesus' words to heart. I wonder what would happen if we each decided to be an answer to the prayer for laborers (Matt 9:38). I wonder what would happen if we would share Jesus with just one person this week. Could the waves of change we seek for our nation be started by such a simple act? Could we see another great awakening? If God's people got serious about doing His will, would our nation change (2 Chronicles 7:13-14)? Would the world change? It's up to you and me.

I wonder...
